Zoe’s nine fantastic feats of fitness for 2012

SUPER-FIT PE teacher Zoe McBeth is planning to walk more than 50 miles, wearing a decorated bra outside her clothes.

The London Ultra-Moon walk, is just one of nine challenges she hopes to tackle this year to raise money for charity.

In the coming months the Colchester mother-of-two will also run marathons and half-marathons, compete in a triathlon and carry the Olympic torch through her home town, all in aid of the breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk.

For May’s Ultra Moon walk she will join thousands of other women, all wearing decorated bras outside their clothes.

But when the others put their feet up at the end of the course, Zoe plans to walk a second lap, clocking up a total of 52.4 miles.

Zoe, 38, a teacher at Littlegarth School in Nayland, was inspired to attempt the feat after her friend, Caroline Smith, of Langham, battled breast cancer.

She said: “In December 2009, my amazing friend Caroline was diagnosed with breast cancer, aged 33.

“She had a double mastectomy but unfortunately, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, so she had to endure months of chemotherapy.

“She was pregnant throughout her treatment, but little baby proved to be as much of a fighter as her mum and my gorgeous goddaughter, Sophie, was born on June 25.

“Since then, several incredibly special friends have been affected by this dreadful disease and putting one foot in front of another is all I can do to help.”

Zoe said Caroline’s treatment was progressing well and added: “I take on this challenge for Caroline and all of those women and men who are going through or have been through treatment.

“Walk the Walk’s motto is ‘raise money, raise awareness – get fit and have fun’ and I try to do this every single day for those who are unable to do it for themselves.”

Zoe is no stranger to fundraising feats. Last year, she decided to run and power walk a total of 1,000 miles, raising more than £6,000 for the charity.

Her effort is being supported by Colchester’s Mersea Road Clinic which is helping her to stay injury-free throughout the challenges.
