YOUNG people are set to be the focus of a new group on Mersea Island.
West Mersea town councillors are keen to set up a Youth Interest Working Group to help address the needs of the community’s younger residents.
They believe that members, drawn from those already working within the youth sector, will look at specific problems and work together to find solutions.
The group will also consult with young people on wider community issues, aiming to make them feel more valued and important members of the community.
Councillor Wendy Bixby said: “We want to encourage experienced youth workers and volunteers that already live and work on Mersea Island to become involved in the group.
“By involving young people in meetings, we will be better able to help tackle issues that affect the wider community such as repetitive anti-social behaviour in specific areas.”
“The main aim of the new working party is to help and support the young people of West Mersea, and to involve them in projects that will keep Mersea Island a nice place to live and visit,” she added.
The town council hopes to arrange an informal meeting later this month to discuss the proposal.
