£40,000 invested in Mersea co-op scheme

5:11pm Thursday 29th December 2011 in News

A COMMUNITY co-operative project aiming to take over a village shop, restaurant and allotment, has taken £40,000 in pledges.

East Mersea residents are clubbing together to become stakeholders of the threatened businesses in East Road.

The land, which houses several village amenities, has been put up for sale for £495,000 by current owners Land Management Ltd.

Peter Mann, project chairman, said that six people have invested in the scheme already.

One of those is believed to have made a £20,000 pledge - the maximum share a stakeholder can have.
