A MAN was left trapped under a car in one of a trio of smashes in north Essex this morning.
He was thrown from a red Ford Fiesta after colliding with a silver Toyota in East Mersea Road, West Mersea, around 8am.
Fire fighters helped to lift the vehicle off the man, who police said suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
It was one of three serious smashes in the region early on Saturday morning after icy conditions had hit overnight.
Also around 8am - this time in Mersea Road, Abberton, near Colchester - a one-vehicle crash saw a black Vauxhall Frontera left on its side. Fire crews cut a woman free from the wreckage of the 4x4 vehicle but it is not clear at this stage the extent of her injuries.
Earlier, around 7am, a man was injured after the green Ford Mondeo he was driving overturned in Manningtree Road, Dedham.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was cut free by fire crews before being taken to hospital with what police described as injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
