RNLI Sponsored Row at Maldon Hythe Quay, Tuesday 27th December 1 pm

A festive entertainment and an opportunity for a spectator activity on the Promenade at Maldon.

This annual event has been held off Maldon's attractive waterfront for over 30 consecutive years and the timing is dictated by the most convenient high tide during the Christmas holidays. This year the event will be held on Tuesday 27th December with the start at approximately 1 pm. We expect to exceed the 33 entrants in the last row.

The spirit of the event is a charity fun row of approximately three miles, with many of the crews in fancy dress.

Boats used range from small dinghies through to canoes, kayaks, skiffs and whalers. Usually several rowing clubs participate and add an element of competition.

The river at Maldon always looks at its best as we have to choose a day with a high spring tide which often comes over the barge quay. The row lasts about an hour and a half , spectators can get a good view from the promenade park. The West Mersea lifeboat has promised to attend provided it does not get a shout, and this gives the public an opportunity to see  the boat close up. The West Mersea lifeboat committee have said that they would welcome any publicity they can get from the media.

The sponsored row is the major Christmas holiday event now that the famous Maldon Mud Race has been permanently moved to Easter.
