Council's beach hut bid shelved after Mersea outcry

10:50am Friday 2nd December 2011 in News

COLCHESTER Council has withdrawn a bid to build new beach huts on a West Mersea car park following a flurry of opposition.

More than 1,000 residents signed a petition opposing a planning application for 30 beach huts at the Victoria Esplanade Car Park on West Mersea.

Tina Dopson, councillor responsible for communities, said: "Having reflected on the weight of public opinion surrounding this application this decision has been made with careful consideration."
