Developers unveil 2,200 homes plan

DEVELOPERS have confirmed they plan to build more than 2,000 homes on north Colchester countryside.
The plans include 2,200 homes and community facilities to be built on a 247-acre plot of land off Nayland Road.
A planning application is set to be submitted to Colchester Council by spring next year by Mersea Homes and Countryside Properties, which has lined up public consultations over the proposals.
Residents formed the Love Myland committee, to oppose plans when they first came to light last year. However, the site was allocated for development by the council in October 2010.
David Clouston, of Love Myland group, said: “We have been expecting this to happen.
“We are very pleased that Mersea Homes is taking a very consultative approach and we look forward to engaging with them as positively as possible.
“Our only concern at this stage is that Colchester Council’s revised supplementary planning document for the area has not yet been published. “We very much hope the revised plan will be ready in time to inform the planning application process.
“We, and other community groups, are working with Colchester Council actively.”
The plans also include a new community centre, schools, a green area and playgrounds.
Members of the public have been invited to hear the proposals in more depth and share their thoughts at two drop-in consultation events.
The first will be held at Queen Boudica Primary School from 4.45pm to 8pm on Thursday, December 8.
A second will be held at Mile End Recreation Ground Pavilion from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, December 10.
A new website will be launched, providing more information about the project and offering registered users the chance to leave feedback.
