A man who fell 25ft from a seawall in Essex is seeking compensation for his injuries.

Colin Corrigan was walking along a seawall path in East Mersea, Essex when the incident happened in August this year. As he was walking with his wife, he lost his footing and fell 25ft to the ground below.

It took the emergency services over three hours to rescue him from his muddy landing spot, and he suffered serious injuries. His leg and five ribs were broken in the fall, and he suffered a punctured lung and a head injury too. The injuries are so serious that he has been unable to work since the accident happened.

Now, the Harwich and Manningtree Standard is reporting that Mr Corrigan is attempting to make a personal injury claim against Essex County Council who maintain the public right of way. The couple are also campaigning for the council and the nearby caravan park to put up railings along the path to make it safer. They also want the path to be lit when dark.

A spokesperson for the council told the newspaper that they were in contact with the Corrigan’s. They also stated that it is not standard practice to put barriers and lights on rural paths.
