A FISHING trawler was grounded twice in one day because the crew did not have sufficient navigation charts onboard, the Coastguard has said.
The crew of the vessel Tavener first contacted Thames Coastguard at 10.15am on Sunday when it ran aground at the entrance to the River Colne.
The boat re-floated with out any assistance when the tide changed.
At 6.22pm the boat made contact with the Coastguard for a second time when it was grounded near Tollesbury at the entrance to the River Blackwater.
West Mersea RNLI inshore lifeboat made contact with the vessel and discovered that the two people onboard were safe but had insufficient navigation charts onboard.
The following morning the Walton RNLI All-weather Lifeboat was sent to the scene, but was unable to tow the casualty off due to insufficient depth of water.
The crew of Tavener will return when the tides are more suitable in a few days time.
In a separate incident on Sunday, Clacton Coastguard, Essex Police and the ambulance service were called to a teenage girl whose foot had become stuck in the rock sea defence near to Clacton Pier.
The girl was extricated by the police shortly before 4pm and, following safety advice given by the Coastguard, she was taken to Clacton Hospital suffering pains in her foot.
