False alarm for lifeboat crews
10:26am Monday 17th October 2011
ATTEMPTS were made to rescue a happy family following kind-hearted but mistaken emergency calls.
Lifeboat crews and the coastguard were called out to the Salcott Channel in the River Blackwater at about 4pm, on Sunday, October 16.
Thames Coastguard had received a call from a yacht on its mooring, reporting four people stranded on the shoreline waving for help.
However when the West Mersea lifeboat arrived the crew found they had just been waving to their family.
