11:10am Monday 29th August 2011
A FISHERMAN is lucky to be alive after his boat sank a mile-and-a-half out to sea.
Three large waves crashed over the side of Kevin Hughes’a fishing boat off the Mersea coast forcing him to abandon the vessel.
Mr Hughes, who owns Hughes Fishmongers in Head Street, Colchester, had to swim for more than two hours to reach the shore before a passer-by came to his aid.
The father-of-one is recovering from hypothermia at his West Mersea home.
