TRAIN delays have been resolved after an afternoon of chaos on the region’s rail network in which a man was hit by a train.

A 52-year-old who is thought to be from Dereham was struck by the 14.06 Norwich to Lowestoft train at 2.15pm today at Whitlingham junction in Thorpe St Andrew.

Paramedics went to his aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Services from Norwich to Sheringham, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft were cancelled or delayed as British Transport Police officers investigated the scene, although the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A series of train faults and signalling problems have also caused havoc today, with several services to and from the capital being held back by up to 17 minutes.

But normal service has now been resumed on the rail network.

Meanwhile several spots of heavy traffic have been reported in Ipswich, with tailbacks growing on Star Lane, Civic Drive and Norwich Road in particular.

An earlier abandoned vehicle has also caused delays for drivers on The Strood in West Mersea, while traffic is moving very slowly at Cowdray Avenue in Colchester.
