8:00am Tuesday 23rd August 2011

A TEENAGER had to be rescued after he ran away from bullies and into the water near West Mersea.

The West Mersea RNLI inshore lifeboat was called to Cob Marsh Island, just before 8pm on Monday, August 22, after the young man got into difficulties.

Three other teenagers were thought to have been harassing him so, fearing for his safety, he chose to take to the water to get away.

Essex Police and the Mersea Coastguard were also called before the young man was recovered safe and well.
