COLCHESTER soldiers started their summer holidays with a gruelling trip to the beach.
Troops from Colchester-based 13 Air Assault Support Regiment, the Royal Logistic Corps ran from Cudmore Grove Country Park to West Mersea beach.
They kicked off their leave with log races in the Blackwater Estuary. Staff Sergeant Paul Wells, in charge of the regiment’s physical training, said: “It was a chance to get everyone together and have some fun before summer leave.
“We’re used to running around Friday Woods and thought coming down to the beach for a run and some races would be something different.”
