Mersea Island Portal

The romantic lure of Island life is alive and well just off the coast of Essex. Mersea Island, nestled between the river Blackwater and Colne estuaries is approximately nine miles south-east of Colchester, and is without doubt one of the county's best kept secrets.

The island is approximately five miles by two miles, and has a perimeter of twelve miles encompassing the town of West Mersea and the village of East Mersea. The name is a derivation of the Anglo Saxon word ‘Meresig’, which dates from the early 10th Century and means 'island of the pool'.

Information:

Mersea Island Players is an amateur drama society. We produce a pantomime and a play/other entertainment every year at the Mersea Island Community Association hall. Our junior group, Mersea Island Young Players, put on an entertainment of their own every year, plus many of the youngsters feature in the adult group's pantomimes.
Juniors meet in the Small Hall at the MICA on Wednesday evenings from 6.45pm to 7.45 pm and the adults from 8pm to 10pm.  If you'd like to come along and have a look at us you'll be welcome - whether adult or junior.  You don't have to get up on the stage - if you enjoy meeting people, messing about with paints and scenery or make-up or even making costumes, come and see us.  Of course, if you'd like to get up on stage you'll be doubly welcome!!!
