News - Bradwell nuclear site Proposals
This meeting will be chaired by West Mersea Town Council Cllr Mayor Alan
Mogridge in a private capacity, and
will include an expert panel including Professor Andrew Blowers OBE, who
has a home here on Mersea, and was on the Committee for Radioactive
Waste Management CORWM

The Council has been advised by HM Health & Safety Executive Nuclear
Installations Inspectorate that contrary to the indications given to the
public meeting Bradwell site has not submitted a safety case that
justifies the underground storage of waste until 2016 as planned, and
that the NII safety deadline of 2012 still remains. This infers that
work has to commence now to remove this waste if the 2012 deadline is to
be met. The problem identified by the site in making progress is caused
by cutbacks in funding.
